Have you no decency, sir?

While the media hype surrounding anything Belinda Stronach does is regrettable, it pales in comparison to the juvenile treatment she receives from her critics. So, in an effort to raise the level of discourse surrounding Ms. Stronach, I present a partial list of inappropriate vocabulary. The briefest reflection should make clear that any respectful, reasoned political dialogue has no need of these terms:

  • blonde
  • bombshell
  • daddy
  • dame
  • “It” girl
  • Judas
  • Paris Hilton
  • Prada
  • prostitute
  • schoolgirl
  • spoiled
  • whore

    How about “Member of Parliament”

The severe name calling is quite appalling but somewhat understandable. The Conservatives are afraid that they had grasped their ultimate goal, but no sooner had they felt it at their fingertips it was yanked away from their hands and brought to their greatest enemy by someone within. Of course we all know that fear leads to anger, anger to hatred, and hatred to stupidity (i think that’s how it goes, just like the circle of life), so the only real response the Conservatives had was that which we have seen.

The Conservatives are being appropriately dogged on this issue, but I would predict that, had any of the other three parties been the victim of a defection at this point in the game, they would have reacted identically.

    Thanks for posting Sniggins.

I was surprised to open my paper this morning and read the headline “Defection may backfire on Liberals, poll finds”. Could the name calling have worked? After reading the poll at http://www.compas.ca/data/050519-Stronach-EP.pdf
I believe that the numbers cited by Don Butler of the Ottawa Citizen simply illustrate an angry and solidified Conservative base in Ontario. This is not surprising, the Stronach defection would hit close to home for Ontario Conservatives on the main front of any upcoming election. Stronach’s true impact on voters may never be accurately measured, but will not be felt untill the effect of sexist attacks falls off, and that of extemist attacks takes off. According to the same poll 22 per cent of NDP supporters are more likely to vote Liberal post defection! Bad news for the NDP, great news for Liberals.

I have to ask: where is your critic of today’s events! Here I’m sitting at work watching the webcast of Parliament, enjoying the continual pounding Stronach is receiving and her humorous response (“this is a complex file and I look forward to blah blah blah”), reading about the continuing news breaks ( Yesterdays MP Jim Karygiannis heart attack turns out to be heartburn, Liberal bribes caught on tape, Parish claims illness, Kilgour to vote against liberals, etc), I come for a little political comment and critic, which has in the past few days been timely and objective, and here there is nothing.

Come on guys, your audience is waiting to hear your opinions.

P.S. I’m just ribbing you a bit, don’t take offence.
