Same-sex marriage set to become law this summer
2 June 2005

(GnomesPress) Days after an apparent victory for the opponents of equal marriage, the Liberal government appears to be poised to ensure its same-sex marriage law is passed before Parliament breaks for the summer.

Facing stall tactics by anti-gay rights Conservative MP Vic Toews, the Parliamentary committee reviewing Bill C-38 agreed earlier this week to postpone its report to Parliament from June 9 to June 16. That would have given Parliament only three sitting days before its summer recess to pass the legislation extending the rights of marriage to gays and lesbians nationwide, making a fall vote on the legislation seem a near certainty.

Following the Liberals’ weekly caucus meeting on Thursday, however, it appears that the government is prepared to take steps and ensure that its marriage rights bill becomes law sooner rather than later. Extending the sitting days of the House or Senate, invoking closure, and ordering the committee to report back to the House sooner than planned have all been proposed as strategies to ensure that attempts by anti-gay forces to derail the legislation are unsuccessful. The committee, which includes includes several gay and lesbian MPs, is widely expected to approve the legislation when it does report back to the House.

Same-sex marriage is currently legal in eight of Canada’s thirteen jurisdictions, the result of judges finding that the opposite-sex only definition violated the constitutional rights of same-sex couples.

Homosexual “marriage” bill may pass this summer
2 June 2005

(GnomesPress) Days after an apparent victory for the supporters of traditional marriage, the Liberal government appears poised to force its homosexual “marriage” law through Parliament before the summer break.

Due in large part to a filibuster by pro-family Conservative MP Vic Toews, the Parliamentary committee reviewing Bill C-38 agreed earlier this week to postpone its report to Parliament from June 9 to June 16. That would have given Parliament only three sitting days before its summer recess to pass the legislation abolishing the universally accepted, centuries-old definition of marriage, making a fall vote on the legislation seem a near certainty.

Following the Liberals’ weekly caucus meeting on Thursday, however, it appears that the government is prepared to stifle public hearings and force the Bill through Parliament in the next few weeks. Extending the sitting days of the House or Senate, invoking closure, and ordering the committee to report back to the House sooner than planned have all been proposed as strategies to ensure that pro-family forces are unable to voice their concerns on this legislation. The committee, which was stacked with openly homosexual MPs, is widely expected to approve the legislation when it reports back to the House.

Homosexual “marriages” are already being performed in eight of Canada’s thirteen jurisdictions, the result of court cases in which activist judges reading “sexual orientation” into the Consitution.

I suggest you check out Lifesite.ca, for all the latest. They almost never forget the quotations when discussing gay “marriage”, thought lately they have been using single quotes instead of double, so they might be slipping.–>
